Title IX Training
Creating a Culture of Safety
In order to keep a safe and open campus for everyone, Southwestern College has ensured that our Title IX Coordinator is thoroughly trained on the many facets of Title IX regulations.
The training received by our Title IX Coordinator allows us to fully understand and comply with Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act so our staff can help you when you need help.
In addition, our Office of Employee Relations and Title IX also provides our District partners with training on Title IX policies and procedures enacted by this District. Training is also available to students through the Not Anymore application.
Staff Title IX Training
Our staff is trained by the Association of Title IX Administrators, an independent nonprofit that has more than 7,000 active members across the country. Find out more about them on the ATIXA Page
Our Title IX personnel complete the following trainings:
Interactive Training
In compliance with federal guidelines and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), we offer sexual violence prevention training through a program called Not Anymore.
It is highly encouraged that all students participate in this training. It provides important information about consent, bystander intervention, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and much more. Not Anymore will help you better understand how vitally important these issues are and what you can do to help make our campus safer and more welcoming.
In addition to the incentive of a safer campus, completion of the online training will automatically enroll you in a prize drawing where prizes may include three-month gym membership, funds for textbooks from the bookstore, or vouchers to the college cafeteria.
The ability to recognize sexual misconduct and knowing what to do about it as either the victim or as a friend of one who is a victim will significantly help in ensuring a safe learning and working environment for everyone in the Southwestern College community.

Consent Videos
The law defines consent as the affirmative, conscious, and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity. Affirmative consent must be ongoing throughout sexual activity and can be revoked at any time. Silence, the existence of a dating relationship or past sexual relations, is not by itself assumed to be an indicator of consent. The person must act freely and voluntarily and have knowledge of the nature of the act or transaction involved.
Emmeline May authored a very simple, yet useful metaphor that helps explain consent using a cup of tea: If they are unconscious, don't make them tea. Unconscious people can't answer the question, "Do you want tea?" because they are unconscious.
Simple, isn't it? Please watch this video using Emmeline May's "Cup of Tea" example to help explain consent
