Welcome to the CalWORKs Program!  Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Arlie Ricasa, and I am the new Director of EOPS/CARE overseeing the CalWORKs Program as well as the Center for Technical Education and Career Success (CTECS) and the Women’s Resource Center.

As the youngest of ten children, I was fortunate to observe the perseverance of my parents.  They came to the United States in search of a better life for their children and themselves.  While my father served in the U.S. Navy and spent many months at sea, my mother raised my siblings and me.  We were all learning how to live in a new country with a new culture.

One of the strongest memories I have as a child was watching my mother take her classes at a local community college and attending her graduation as she received an associate arts degree.  Her degree allowed her to work with children, who she loved and adored, and to contribute financially to the family.  Today, I share with my own children what my mother said to me, “They can take away your car or your house, but they can never take away your education!”

I want to applaud the hard work and commitment you have demonstrated in pursuing your educational goals while working towards self-sufficiency. The entire CalWORKs staff is looking forward to assisting you every step of the way. Please visit us in our new location in the Cesar E. Chavez Student Services Center on the second floor.

Sincerely,

Arlie Ricasa,

Director of EOPS/CARE/CTECS/CalWORKs
