Information for Graduates

Check-In Details

Report to DeVore Stadium Lot P between 2:30pm-3pm in your cap & gown - DO NOT BE LATE. Look for signage leading you to the student check-in tables in Lot P off of H Street.

No children and/or pets are allowed on the field during the ceremony. If special assistance is required, please contact Jenny Marasigan at jmarasigan@swccd.edu or call (619) 482-6537 prior to the day of the ceremony.

Attire, Cap & Gown

Wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking and going up several steps to the stage to receive your diploma. Decorating your cap is permitted, however, no inappropriate embellishments including language, photos, graphic images, balloons, strings, or obstructive decorations.

Honors

All students who register for the ceremony prior to May 4th and are anticipating to graduate with honors will be verified by the Evaluations Office. The list of honors students will be sent to graduates on May 11, 2018. Honors students will receive a special honors tassel at check-in. Any questions should be directed to Evaluations Office no later than May 18, 2018. We cannot address any honors concerns the day of the ceremony and no additional tassels will be available on the day of the ceremony.

Active Military & Veteran Medals

All graduates who declared being a US Active Military or Veteran prior to May 4th will be verified with Veteran Services. Upon confirmation, student will receive a medal at check-in. We cannot address any concerns the day of the ceremony, and no additional medals will be available on the day of the ceremony.

Transfer Medals

All transfer students who register for the ceremony prior to May 4th will be verified by the Evaluations Office. The list of Transfer students will be sent to graduates on May 11, 2018. Transfer students will receive a transfer medal at check-in. Any questions should be directed to Evaluations Office no later than May 18, 2018. We cannot address any transfer concerns the day of the ceremony, and no additional transfer medals will be available on the day of the ceremony.

Photographs

A professional photographer from GradImages will be taking photos of all graduates on stage as they receive their diploma cover. Graduates will be contacted after the ceremony with a website link to view and purchase photos.

Parking

On Commencement day, free parking is available in all parking lots on the SWC Campus, except for some reserved areas. If possible, make arrangements to carpool as campus parking will be heavily impacted. DISABLED PARKING is located in Lot M, N, & J.

Guests/Seating

Students may invite as many friends and family members as they desire. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and reserving of seats will not be allowed. Seat cushions are recommended for bleacher seating.

Weather

Commencement is held outdoors rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Umbrellas will not be permitted; please use hats & sunscreen.

Information for Family & Friends

Commencement is a significant milestone for graduates, their families, friends and loved ones. We ask that you assist us in helping make this day a memorable one.

Please refer to the following details so that you may plan accordingly:

  • Commencement is held outdoors rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Umbrellas will not be permitted; please use hats & sunscreen. Seat cushions are recommended for bleacher seating.
  • Free parking is available in all parking lots on the SWC Campus, except for some reserved areas. If possible, make arrangements to carpool as campus parking will be heavily impacted. DISABLED PARKING is located in Lot M, N, & J.
  • Gates open at 2:30pm and will be closed once the stadium reaches capacity. Stadium seating is limited - please arrive early!
  • Overflow seating will be available in the Gymnasium (located in the New Wellness and Aquatics Complex). Live Stream of the ceremony will be available for guests inside the Gym.
  • Graduates are expected to stay until the end of the ceremony. As a courtesy to all graduates and their families and guests, we ask that everyone in attendance stay until the end of the ceremony.
  • At the conclusion of the ceremony, the gathering area for graduates and their guests will be in “Lot J”. Graduates will exit the field to Lot “J” to meet their guests.
  • Due to the length of the ceremony, we recommend any celebration plans, dinner reservations, etc. be made after 7pm.
  • Family and friends will not have access to students during the ceremony and are not permitted on the field.
Logo for Supplies for Success SWC's Supplies for Success encourages your family and friends to bring supplies (binders, pens, pencils, calculators, notebooks) to donate as they enter. These supplies will be given to future Jaguars to assist them in achieving their dreams.
