DARNELL CHERRY

Coach Cherry played his college basketball at Division I St. Francis College in New York. While at St Francis he earned All Conference 2nd Team and Team MVP awards. He then transferred to Point Loma where he was 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All-American and Team MVP. Coach then played professionally in Argentina.

Coach Cherry has coaching experience as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene College, where he received his B.A., and a served as Head Coach at El Cajon Valley High School. He bacame an assistant coach for the Southwestern Men's basketball team in 2006.
Believing that education pays off, Coach Cherry earned his Masters in Education Administration from National University. He has been an adjunct instructor in the Health, Exercise Science and Athletics Department here at Southwestern since 2006. He also recently took over as Coordinator for the Southwestern College for Kids Summer Program.

Coach is married to his wife, Danielle, and has two sons, Taeshon, 12 and 8 year old Jeremiah and just recently had a girl.

CHRISTIAN BRODT

Coach Brodt has coaching experience as an assistant coach at West Hills High School since the fall of 2005 and served as the Head Assistant Coach under Darnell Cherry at El Cajon Valley High School.

Coach Brodt’s passion and love for the game of basketball has carried over in his educational successes. Coach Brodt has earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology and American-Multicultural Studies from Sonoma State University and he is currently in the final stages of receiving his Masters in Special Education at National University. He is entering his ninth year, serving the students in the Grossmont Union High School District as a Special Education Teacher.

Coach Brodt brings a positive attitude and is excited to support the student-athletes in this program.
