San Diego Mesa diver Michelle McDonald and Southwestern softball player Monica Armas are the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Athletes of the Week.

McDonald, a sophomore from Mar Vista High School, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the Chaffey Invitational in helping lead the Olympians’ swimming and diving team to a second-place finish. McDonald, the defending PCAC champion and state finalist on both boards, remained unbeaten for defeating runner-up Aimee runs of Riverside City College 192.10 points to 182.40 on the 1-meter board and 213.80 points to 211.05 on the 3-meter board.

Armas, a sophomore pitcher / second baseman from Hilltop High School, went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and a walk to lead the Jaguars pas San Diego City 9-5.  Armas came in to pitch in the top of the third inning in a 4-4 game and allowed four hits and one run over the last five innings. She’s hitting .457 with an .800 slugging percentage and is 2-0 pitching.

Honorable mention went to Palomar basketball player Maureen Fegan, Mesa softball pitcher Laura Nelson and Cuyamaca track & field hurdler Tia Knight.

Fegan, a freshman from Rancho Buena Vista High School, scored 17 points as the Comets fell two wins short of a trip to the CCCAA State Final Four, losing to Moorpark 68-60 on the road in the third round of the Southern California Regionals.

Nelson, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Mount Miguel High School, recorded her seventh win for the Olympians when she shut out Imperial Valley 11-0.

Knight, a freshman from Steele Canyon High School, ran a 14.81 to finish second in the 100 hurdles in the San Diego Challenge at UC San Diego. She finished only behind San Diego State’s Allison Reaser who won the race in 14.32.
