PCAC Honors Gabby Robledo This Week

GRobledoSouthwestern College basketball player has been named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s Women’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended on Sunday.
Robledo, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Olympian High School, scored 18 points and also contributed 10 rebounds and four steals as she helped lead the Jaguars, who are in a three-way tie for the conference lead, to a 61-34 victory over San Diego Mesa. She also dished off four assists in a 66-35 win vs. Imperial Valley.

Honorable mention honors for the week went to basketball players Bianca Littleton from Palomar, Johnette Brown (Mt. San Jacinto), Jonalyn Fuertes (Grossmont) and Michaela Nichols (San Diego Mesa).

Littleton, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard/forward from Vista High School, hit a lay-up with :02 seconds remaining to give the Comets a 70-68 victory over Grossmont. With the win, Palomar knocked the Griffins out of a four-way tie for first place with the Comets, Mt. San Jacinto and Southwestern.

Brown, a 5-foot-11 freshman forward from 29 Palms High School, scored 10 points and hauled down nine rebounds as Mt. San Jac, trailing 17-16 at the half, outscored MiraCosta 33-4 in the first 13 minutes of the second half and went on to defeat the Spartans 53-31. Brown, who was previously named the conference’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended Dec. 8, came back two nights later with 12 rebounds in the Eagles’ 71-36 win over San Diego Mesa.

Fuertes, a 5-foot-2 sophomore guard from Sweetwater High School, scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Griffins vs. Palomar. She also tallied 17 points in a 76-68 victory over San Diego City College.

Nichols, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Serra High School, had 21 points and four steals for the Olympians vs. Southwestern.
