Paula Aleman Nabs PCAC Female Athlete of the Week

PaulaASouthwestern College track & field hurdler Paula Aleman has been selected as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week.

Aleman, a sophomore from Sweetwater High School, won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.35 on Saturday in the Southern California Community College Championships at Riverside City College’s Wheelock Stadium. She scored a solid win over runner-up Crystal Lizaula from El Camino College, who was timed in 1:02.11.

Honorable mention for the week went to Southwestern track & field athletes Korin Chapman and Grace Ward and San Diego City College badminton player Darby Duprat.

Chapman , a sophomore from Eastlake High School, went 11 feet in the pole vault to place third in the PCAC championships.

Duprat, a sophomore from Hoover High School, advanced to the singles semifinals of the CCCAA State Championships at De Anza College in Cupertino. There, she lost to Pinky Le of host De Anza, who went on to win the state singles title.

Chapman (week ending March 23) and Duprat (week that ended May 4) were previous 2014 Women’s Athlete of the Week selections.
