Test of Essential Academic Skills
All ADN, LVN-RN, and VN students must pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
This is a diagnostic test that covers basic Math, Reading, and Science. Students who fail to achieve a passing score must complete additional pre-nursing course work as directed by the Nursing Department. The TEAS test will be given by a test proctor prior to starting the nursing program at a time set by the Nursing Department. In the event you do not pass the test on your first attempt, you will need to complete remediation and test a second time (with a passing score) no sooner than six months after your first attempt in order for the score to be considered. Proof of remediation, as well as proof of first and second test attempts must be attached to the program application.
Important note regarding TEAS scores when applying to Southwestern College Nursing Programs:
Per ATI: TEAS Version 6 was released on August 31, 2016. Version 5 is no longer available; however, if you are submitting your ADN/RN or Step Up application to the SWC Nursing Department between October 3, 2016 and January 31, 2017, with a passing TEAS score of 62 or higher using Version 5, it will ONLY be accepted for the incoming Cohort 2019 (beg. Fall 2017).
- Please note: once you have taken Version 6, we will only accept TEAS Version 6.
- Effective March 1, 2017: Version 6 will be mandatory when applying to SWC Nursing. NO EXCEPTIONS.
