The School of Counseling and Personal Development offers a comprehensive program designed to ensure student success.
Academic advisement and individual counseling appointments are available to all enrolled students as well as a full range of courses in personal growth and development. Counselors are prepared to talk with students about their academic performance, choice of career, personal goals, and transfer opportunities.
Counselors are available to help students identify what courses they have taken and what courses they still need to take in order to achieve their educational goals.
A Student Education Plan (SEP) can be generated for any student. A semester by semester layout of what courses they will be taking while they are attending Southwestern College can also be developed. This document created during a counseling session will identify all General Education requirements, Major preparation, Pre-requisite courses, and Graduation requirements. Each plan will be customized to match your selected academic and career goals, and must be arranged through a 45-minute counseling appointment.
To begin the counseling process, please complete the Student Services Needs Assessment “Intake Form”, print it and bring it to the Counseling Center. A counselor will review it and within 7 business days email you a prescribe “Next Steps” you should take to plan your college education experience.
We understand that attending college can be stressful in your life. Students are responsible for classes, homework, part-time employment, and various personal obligations. The School Psychologist, located in the Counseling Center, is available to assist with personal problems and issues that may impede academic success.
Stop by the Counseling Center and ask for information about the Personal Wellness Program. Should you ever feel overly stressed or need to discuss a serious personal issue, feel free to come by the Counseling Center to schedule an individual appointment with confidential Marriage Family Therapist Interns.
Stop by the Counseling Center located on the second floor of the Student Services Center, or call (619) 421-6700 x 5240
