SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE

POLICE BLOTTER

On Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 12:45 P.M., A Southwestern College police officer responded to a call of persons smoking near the bus stop area of the 100 building.  The area had been posted with “No Smoking” signage but it had been torn down.  The area had previously been vandalized with marking pens.  Southwestern College has been designated by the Governing Board as a “Smoke Free College.”

The officer saw a male, later identified as a Southwestern College student smoking.  While the officer was speaking with the male student, a female student began to verbally interfere.  He told the female to stand aside and not interfere.  When she continued, she was detained, for the safety of the officer, because he was outnumbered.  Both students were cited for misconduct and released.  The female student and others were later observed smoking at the same location after the officers left. This information was also included in the Student Misconduct.

The ASO, Health Services, Governing Board and the College Police Department are currently educating students, faculty and staff about our Campus Smoke Free Policy, SWCCD Policy 3570.  We are looking for compliance but will enforce the policy if other options and compliance are not observed.
