YADIRA GARCIA, Student Activities Coordinator

Yadira was born and raised in "America's Finest City." She graduated from Morse High School in 1999 and subsequently moved to Los Angeles County to pursue a college education. In 2003 she earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Spanish with honors from Claremont McKenna College, thus becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college. Most of her professional career has been at Southwestern College. She began working part-time at SWC's Contracting Opportunities Center in Mission Valley and has been promoted through the ranks to her current position as Student Activities Coordinator. Yadira's leadership experience extends beyond the campus and into the community. For five years she and her husband served as youth leaders at their local church where they taught and mentored adolescents and young adults. Although they had no children of their own at the time, they "adopted" this group of young people as their own.

Yadira and her husband Carlos live in Paradise Hills. They have been happily married for eight years and have a 1 year-old son who keeps them busy during the day and awake at night.
